Introduction and Client Group

Founded by Ann Bremner MBE with the help of a few Volunteers 20 years ago as a one morning a week coffee and biscuits drop-in for the homeless, those living in temporary accommodation and the poorer unemployed in the locality. Average attendance of 15 a week.

Strong growth record has produced today's widely known and respected charity, open six days a week with 12 paid staff and over 100 Volunteers providing a range of support services and professional surgeries plus Crèche.

Friary has three "open" days (Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am - 1pm) and two "by appointment" (ring for an appointment) days at other times. On average, we see over 300 people a week.

The Strategy. In addition to sustaining the present levels of community service the 3 year Business Plan proposes extension to existing premises; increase in staff and volunteers, development of further services.

Mental and general health needs are to the forefront of 90% of Service Users presenting at the Friary Drop-In, stemming from addiction, homelessness, poverty, unemployment, abuse, depressions, ill health, family break-up.

Health and Community Care, Housing, Welfare Benefits. Our services and partnerships with others are directed towards the promotion of better health and housing for Service Users.
